Our rugs are made using clever fabrics that pick up the pulse from an electric fence and transfer it directly through to the inside of the rug; this means the horse feels the same effect from the fence as they would if not wearing a rug at all and so it prevents them from walking into, leaning over or ducking under an electric fence. The whole outer layer of the neck cover is made using the same clever fabrics and design as the rug; the pulse is simply transferred to the inside of the neck cover the instant contact is made. Click here to watch a short video about the design and performance.
The rug and neck covers are designed to simply act as a channel to transfer the pulse from the fence to the horse; so your horse will feel exactly the same effect from the fence as they would if not wearing a rug at all. Because there are no wires or batteries in our products, the pulse from the fence can’t be increased or decreased by the rug, it simply transfers the pulse to the inside so the horse can feel the fence.
Of course we always recommend your fence has been set up according to the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Because the rug only transfers the pulse from the fence through the rug – yes the horse has to make contact with an electrified fence for the rug to work. We can’t stop the jumpers; but we can stop nearly every buster!
Yes you can layer any brand or style rug underneath your electric fence rug. All our ranges have special inside straps designed to allow rugs to be layered inside the internal strap. The inside strap is where the pulse from the fence is transferred to; and it has been designed especially to allow layering underneath your rug as layering can be essential during colder months.
The neck covers you cant layer underneath because the area the pulse is transferred to is under the lining so the inside of the neck cover always needs to be in direct contact with the horse – if you layer underneath the neck cover you will likely block the horse from feeling the pulse. You can layer underneath the neck cover with anti-rub hoods and similar as they are made using such thin fabrics they won’t block the pulse.
We find our sizings are relatively true to size, if anything they are slightly generous in length, and have plenty of room in the shoulder for broader horses.
The chest closure has fully adjustable buckles to accommodate for varying shapes and size chests. You of course can always swap sizes if needed, just be sure to try your rug on over a clean sheet so you can return it and swap it for another size if needed. Just give us a call if you have any questions or would like to arrange swapping a size.
Yes! You can wash and re-proof you rug exactly as you would with a normal rug. Remember any waterproof product should be washed below 300c using a special washing powder or liquid designed for waterproof products. Normal household washing powders or liquids can strip the entire waterproof coating off in one wash – so do not use these if washing a waterproof rug. Also remember you can’t tumble dry a waterproof product as you can easily melt away the waterproof coating. These guidelines apply to washing any waterproof product. If you get your rugs professionally washed, we recommend reviving the dwr Teflon coating (Fence Buster range) using an in wash Teflon or Nik Wax product. This will revive the rugs dwr coating to as new, the dwr coating is the Teflon which enhances breathability and water repellency and also helps the fabrics to dry 50% quicker than normal fabrics.
For any repairs required on the main body of the rug (not the chest or neck cover with our clever fabric) can be repaired the same as any normal rug. For repairs on the chest or neck cover where our clever fabric is – you can repair it the same as a normal rug, but if you replace any fabric on the chest or neck cover, that area wont work with the fence, i.e. if you add a 6 inch patch on the chest or neck cover, that 6 inch patch of course won’t work with the electric fence, but the rest of the rug will work as normal. You can always return your rug to us for a repair, just give us a call to organise sending it to us. We work to a 72 hour schedule to receive, repair and return your rug back to you.
